Universitas Internasional Batam (UIB) established in 2000 based on the Decree of the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number 160 / D / O / 2000, UIB is a Private University managed by the Yayasan Marga Tionghoa Indonesia (YMTI) as a form of concern for education for the community in Batam and surrounding areas.
Initially, Universitas Internasional Batam was originally located at Engku Putri area, Batam Center, as a place for activities and lectures. In 2003, Universitas Internasional Batam had its campus located on Gajah Mada Street, Baloi – Sei Ladi, Batam.
During this time, UIB strategic development is divided into several stages, the first stage is infrastructure development and improvement, and then the second development strategy focused in increasing the capacity of development. The capacity building carried out by UIB since 2007 as outlined in the five-year Strategic Plan (Renstra) has also been carried out in several stages. Coordination capacity building for 2007-2011 begins with strengthening governance, in 2010-2013 UIB focused on developing efficiency and relevance, in 2012-2016 the development was directed at realizing international quality according to the mandate and vision of the UIB.
In 2019, UIB as an institution has obtained B Accreditation, with a position that is included in 5% of the best universities in Indonesia. Besides that, UIB was also ranked 1 (one) as the best private tertiary institution by LLDIKTI Wilayah X. Meanwhile, for the ranking of Universities based on Performance and Community Service, UIB was included in the category of the best predicate or superior cluster.
Currently, UIB has 6 Faculties and 12 Study Programs that are accredited through the Badan Akreditasi Nasional Perguruan Tinggi (BAN-PT) with 6 accredited A producers, 4 accredited B producers, and 2 new producers who are in the accreditation process. Through international programs, UIB has also succeeded in reaching foreign cooperation with 32 leading universities in ASEAN and Asia.
Based on this historical perspective, it described UIB’s internal and external development trends in the last ten years continued to increase progressive growth to become one of the best private universities in carrying out the role of the Higher Education Tri Dharma to improve Indonesian Human Resources that have more values, academics, morality, and independence which can compete globally.
