Hi, my name is Sinta. I am from Accounting major class of 2014 and I’m currently at Nanjing, China continuing my master degree for two years. I am here taking double degree program which provided by UIB. Double degree means that we can have two titles at once when we graduated. Now I would like to give some testimonials about study abroad in Nanjing with some photos of mine and a little bit of simple explanation.
University Student Book (学生证)
First, let me show you my student book or known as student identification card. I feel very lucky to have this on the age of mine because while I am young and an overseas student so all i want is to explore the place where I am now beside of study. But wherever we go for exploring we need to buy an entrance ticket, me as a colleger of course I have limited financial and i have a lot of place that I must go in my bucket list. So here is the use of having student card in China, it can give you 50% discount for the entrance ticket for every place you visit (not only in Nanjing, but the whole of China). I think this is the point of having student card for every student here because it save me a lot of money.
Confucius Temple (夫子庙)
Confucius Temple is a must visit site in Nanjing. People said if you never go to Confucius temple means you never go to Nanjing. Why? Because it is a tourism place in town, there’s a lot of delicious and many kinds of foods and has a really good design of building, wall, and rooftop. I went there for many times already but I don’t feel boring at all for going to the same place because I really like the food there.
Sun Yat Sen Mausoleum (中山陵)
Sun Yat Sen was a respected people in China and known as the father of China. He passed away in 1925 and buried at the top of purple mountain and named it Sun Yat Sen Mausoleum. Visitors are freely to see his tomb, but need to climb up for 158 meter high and we need to climb it by feet (can you imagine that?) that was so tiring but I felt so worth it to climb up to the top because the scenery there was absolutely pretty cool!
XuanWu Lake (玄武湖)
XuanWu Lake located near our campus, so we can go there whenever we want. That place is a place you can go for refreshing and can catch up for sunset.
JiMing Temple (鸡鸣寺)
For Buddhism don’t worry if you can’t go praying when you overseas to other countries. China has many temple, JiMing temple is the most famous temple here. Although it is far away but we can go there easily because starting from January, Nanjing released another MRT line and fortunately, Jiming temple station is one of the destination.
PuKou railway station (浦口地铁站)
I think I like this place the most, because it’s located in a small island which we need to go there by ferry around five to ten minutes with cost of Rmb 0.6 only. It is the cheapest ferry I have ever known! The island looks like an old one, there has no big building, no mall, no apartment most of their houses are made by wood, a lots of children playing outside and many upper age people are chit-chatting and having their activity in the garden.
This railway station has been suspended already, it was one of Nanjing railway station before.
Winter Camp (冬令营)
(my first winter camp at Harbin)
Government of China nowadays is really welcome for foreign student/colleger to visit China, to learning Chinese Language, Chinese cultural, calligraphy, traditional dance and song. So every year they provide two kinds of camp, summer camp and winter camp. The camp activities are all free for us around 10 to 14 days, there were so many committees who guide us. We just need to pay for the administration fee and transportation fee, and we can play for around two weeks without stressing about hotel, transportation, breakfast, lunch or dinner or money. This is a good chance for us who are already in China because domestic transportation is cheaper than international one.
First Snow in Nanjing (南京初雪)
The most exciting thing is waiting for the first snow. When I arrived here, my senior said that Nanjing is rarely to snow, it made me so disappointed at that time. But something amazing came! Not only snowing but it was a very heavy snow, it was so beautiful. Snows literally and figuratively falls from the sky, unbidden and seemed like a thing of wonder. Winter in Nanjing is not long, it’s just around 2 or 3 months, sometimes not really cold but sometimes we should wear a lot of layer of clothes and it’s still very cold because of strong wind that come from north, fortunately our dorm have heater so we could just stay at dorm when we feel uneasy to go outside.
