In this Academic Year 2018/2019, Universitas Internasional Batam (UIB) gets an opportunity again to be a host university for Darmasiswa Indonesia program. Darmasiswa Indonesia program is an annual program held by Bureau of Planning and International Cooperation to provide full scholarship for foreigners who are interested to learn language and culture of Indonesia for a year. The goal is promoting language and culture of Indonesia, and also as an effort to make Bahasa Indonesia become an international language in the future.
This year is the second year for UIB to held Darmasiswa Indonesia program. Two students of Darmasiswa Indonesia are going to learn language and culture of Indonesia in UIB, namely Alena Kaliska from Slovakia and Sanda Miangaly from Madagascar. Alena and Sanda have come to Indonesia since August 2018 to participate firstly in Opening Ceremony with other Darmasiswa students before they went to their host universities. Since their arrival in Indonesia, Alena and Sanda have learnt Bahasa Indonesia for more or less a month in UIB.
When asked their reasons choosing Batam, they said that Batam is an interesting place to learn culture and tourism. They are also interested with the ‘international’ side of UIB and expect that they can learn many things and enrich their knowledge.
